Genesis of Academic Activities at CDAC , Noida

According to National knowledge commission(NKC) , human capital, skill competencies, knowledge index, and ICT infrastructure are among important metrics for evaluating the progress of a country . Some of the strategy suggested by NKC in its report in 2005 , include

  • Industry – Institute Interaction model being followed in USA , Japan , European Countries

  • Symbiotic existence of University system , R&D and Industry (CMU , MIT model , NSF supported future research plans) where University does research and Industry takes concept to Productization route in a planned manner

NKC has also observed that Research and teaching are most powerful and purposeful if coupled with each other and suggest that strong vibrant PG program is necessary for reducing dependencies on foreign know-how and technology transfer . It has proposed that National labs and industries should teach the students and provide them work and PG should become minimum qualification for recruitment in industry.

CDAC , Noida has ventured into education in 2000 with the same concept of sharing its expertise with students by starting formal degree program . CDAC, Noida professes the policy of establishing the balance between research and teaching for higher education.

At present CDAC Noida is working on research area like Ubiquitous computing , RFID , Language Technology , Health care informatics , Open Source Software, Assistive technologies Software Engineering, Web Technologies, E-security , Secure business- e commerce. Most of these are also identified as Thrust areas for R & D under 11th plan of IT ministry of government of India.

Fundamental premise of the academic culture at the Center is the inter-mixing and interaction of research and education. While advancing knowledge and understanding, it is expected that the research activity would provide experience in theory and experimentation for students and professionals. Simultaneously, the teaching activity is expected to provide an ambience in which the relevance, accomplishments and vitality of its research are concurrently embedded in the knowledge up-gradation process, to provide a competitive edge to the students.
