Web I18N Initiative for Indian languages

CDAC has been participating in Internationalization working group at W3C to provide feedback on Indian languages for web standards pertaining to Internationalization being developed at W3C. A discussion forum has been developed to facilitate communication amongst the participating institutions from India

Internationalization activity at W3C

To ensure that Web formats and protocols are open to all of the world's languages, writing systems, character codes and local conventions.

Issues under discussion for Indian Languages

  Presentation / Styling issues

  • Styling of first character

  • Vertical arrangement of characters

  • Horizontal spacing

  • Bullets and numbers

  • Collation    

  • Underlining of the characters

  • Specifying language, Script and Dialect of the content

  Other issues

  • Formatting of text in CSS and display

  • Rendering & Display of Indian languages text on other devices
